Everything You Need to Know About the Planmeca ProMax S3

Planmeca ProMax S3

Here at Renew Digital, we offer a wide range of Planmeca ProMax S3 2D panorex models and typically carry a few different options at any given time. The Planmeca ProMax S3 is well known in the dental market for its reliability, dependability, and long life. It can be upgraded to cephalometric or cone beam imaging at any time, making it one of the most versatile options. Plus, at 30-50% less than the cost of new Planmeca ProMax S3 machines, they’re not only a powerful digital X-ray machine, but also an unbeatable value. Take a look below at some of the features that set the Planmeca ProMax S3 apart from other digital dental X-ray machines in its class.

Advanced Technology

Planmeca ProMax S3 digital dental X-ray machines are the leader in dental imaging technology. They deliver advanced imaging capabilities to deliver the highest quality and most diagnostically accurate panoramic images. These features include:

Autofocus – Positions the focal layer automatically. Because jaw size and shape vary for each patient, the Planmeca ProMax S3 adjusts to accommodate anatomical differences. First, the operator takes a short lateral scout exposure. An algorithm then determines the correct jaw form and setting to calculate the best location of the layer to fit the patient’s unique anatomy.

Dynamic Exposure Control – Measures the patient’s radiation transparency and adjusts the exposure values for you. This helps to prevent underexposure and poor quality images because it detects too-low initial exposure parameters, as well as unnecessarily high radiation levels. Dynamic Exposure Control is available in both panoramic and cephalometric imaging.

Automatic Gain Control – Adjusts sensor’s sensitivity according to the incoming radiation amount. It automatically adapts to the patient’s unique anatomy, and prevents pixel saturation even in soft tissue and direct radiation areas. This feature is also available for both panoramic and cephalometric imaging.

Patented SCARA Technology – Captures anatomically correct imaging geometry during rotation through the combination of electro-mechanical construction and real-time computation of dynamic rotation patterns. This enables optimized radiography for each unique patient. The free-flowing arm movements give you a wider variety of imaging programs that aren’t possible with fixed X-ray rotations.

Upgradeability – Enhance your practice capabilities with cephalometric or 3D imaging at any time.

Easy to Use

Position your patients with a full view and triple-laser lights. Side entry allows for comfortable patient access and face-to-face positioning. Certified pre-owned units from Renew Digital include either the TouchPad or Classic graphical interface for easy image programming. The included Planmeca Romexis 2D imaging software is highly versatile and can capture, store, and share images as well as assist with treatment planning. With TWAIN support, you can integrate the 2D images into nearly any dental imaging software. The 2D images are DICOM compliant.

Included Imaging Programs

Basic: standard, lateral and PA TMJ, PA sinus, horizontal and vertical segmenting, optional true bitewings.

Advanced: interproximal and orthogonal panoramic, lateral-PA TMJ, lateral multiangle TMJ, PA multiangle TMJ, PA and lateral non-rotational sinus.

Pediatric modes on each program help to minimized image area from the top and sides. This reduces patient radiation exposure by up to 35%.

Optional Extraoral Bitewings

Some machines include a true panoramic bitewing program, not just segmented panoramic images. This produces bitewing-like images from the premolar and molar areas, including parts of the maxilla, mandible, and rami. It is ideal for caries diagnosis. Also visible are the bottom of the maxillary sinus and the mandibular canal and mental foramen. The magnification is set to 1.4X so it can deliver more detail than traditional panoramic programs. It uses improved interproximal angulation projection geometry and has a 50% dose reduction compared to standard panoramic programs.

Optional Cephalometric Programs

For orthodontics, the Planmeca ProMax S3 can be upgraded to cephalometric capabilities. This system offers two different types of ceph capture. Each offers different features and benefits.

Scanning offers extremely low yet effective radiation dose and image sizes up to 30 x 27 cm.

One-Shot offers a short exposure time, reducing the risk of movement and providing a low radiation dose. It has image sizes from 18 x 25 cm to 30 x 25 cm.

Be sure to ask your Renew Digital Sales Representative about the availability of these different cephalometric programs.

Both Planmeca ProMax S3 cephalometric programs provide easy-to-use head positioners, stable carbon-fiber ear posts and a nasal positioner, automatic patient alignment and collimation, and soft tissue filtration within the Romexis 2D imaging software.

DIMAX 3 vs DIMAX 4 Sensor

Renew Digital markets and sells certified pre-owned systems so we can often help dentists and dental specialists stretch their budgets by offering previous generation models and sensors.

The Planmeca ProMax S3 uses DIMAX sensors. DIMAX 3 is the 14-bit previous generation sensor. The current generation is the DIMAX 4 sensor with 16-bit technology. The slight difference can save you thousands of dollars.
